Best practice Community engagement and empowerment

The RecoRa Institute (RecoRa) is a partnership of organisations and individuals from Sweden, The Netherlands and The United Kingdom. It works on a not for profit basis to embed expertise relating to recognising and responding to ideological violence underpinned by global jihadist and right wing ideologies. RecoRa work at a number of inter-related levels:

1. Directly engaging in work with at risk individuals or groups;
2. Mentoring and training front liners engaged in deradicalisation work;
3. Training community activitists
4. Training policy makers in municipalities, police and security services to develop effective policy.

Recora provides a number of services and trainings which comprehends for example courses and master classes for frontline staff, mentors, governmental organisations and communities. It embeds expertise within organisations in kind of train the trainer programmes, organisational development, mentoring and customised support to deal with ideological violence and to increase resilience in the community.

RecoRa links research to policy to practice by arranging seminars, conferences and forums with local and national authorities, assessment of research and participating within the European Radicalisation Awareness Network, UNICRE, and The Global Forum for Counter Terrorism. A promising aspect of RecoRa is its adoption of first-liners with biographical experiences from extremist environments.
