The attacks committed in Europe in recent years have highlighted the issue of the increase in radicalisation in certain sections of the population, the spread of new forms of hate speech and the stigmatisation of some of our communities.
In order to be better prepared to deal with these new challenges, local and regional elected representatives and local and regional authority staff need access to appropriate education and training programmes.
The Congress of Local and Regional Authorities of the Council of Europe has identified programmes on conflict resolution, security and extremism, criminal justice, deradicalisation and interculturalism, as well as training courses for front-line staff.
