ERUDITIO PUBLICA o.p.s.

Eruditio Publica (EP) is an NGO that is in the process of preparing prevention approaches towards radicali-sation and hate crime. EP is presently beginning to work with practitioners in youth work, schools and local authorities, who are in close contact with various groups of hard to reach and at-risk young people. These adolescents tend to act hostile to minorities, Roma, immigrants, LGBT communities, old or disabled people and lean towards a rightwing extremist stance. Such at-risk target groups need to be fully incorporated into a socially informed life-long learning perspective.

EP practitioners come from backgrounds in academia, social studies, teaching, pedagogy, and cultural institutions. They work in schools, youth institutions, as well as communities and also provide awareness-raising with regard to hostile sentiments within the general public. In its consultancy and training EP provides expert knowledge and capacity building in the prevention of violent extremism and hate crime. Methodologically, settings of in-depth practice exchange and experience sharing in multi-agency workshops are applied.

A particularly promising aspect of EP’s approach might be that it attempts to also work with latently extremist and anti-liberal sentiments within the mainstream population; it thus promotes an adequate societal and educational perspective for the implementation of the more targeted interventions with at-risk young people. In the years to come EP aims to develop more systematic deradicalisation and hate crime prevention as well as intervention approaches and implement them in national contexts.
